Reno outreach
Reno outreach
U.S. Grand Lodge has asked local bodies to begin outreach to nearby areas currently without an O.T.O. presence. Accordingly, 418 Lodge is beginning to offer a few events in Reno, Nevada (about two hour’s drive to the east).
This page will list our Reno events as they are scheduled, and also any informal study groups that may develop there.
Reno events will for the time being consist of lectures and discussions; it would require a lot of work to transport our Mass equipment over Donner Pass! Also due to the Pass, 418 Lodge will not be visiting Reno during the winter months, when travel becomes difficult. The difficulty of winter travel over Donner Pass is exactly why we hope that Reno will eventually develop its own O.T.O. body to serve the needs of Thelemites and other like-minded people otherwise isolated by the Sierra Nevada mountains.
That being said, it will likely be some years before an O.T.O. Camp develops in Reno; in the interim, 418 Lodge will visit 4-6 times per year, and encourage interested persons in Reno to attend events in Sacramento when possible.
418 Lodge visited Reno and presented lectures in August and September of this year.
Our next Reno event is set for the evening of Wednesday, October 26th, at the Northwest Reno library, from 6 pm until 7:45 pm. The address is 2325 Robb Drive in Reno, NV. The room will not be the same as either of the last two events; ask at the front desk if you need help finding the space. (Ask for the "418 Lodge" meeting.)
This will be the first meeting of the Reno OTO study group, which is expected to meet each month through the winter. Sacramento folks will revisit Reno in the spring. The topic for October is "Favorite Thelemic/Magical Texts". Each attendee will bring their favorite Thelemic or magical text, and tell the others what they like about it, what it means to them, and what questions it's raised. Ideally there'll be some freeform discussion after each text introduction, and when things die down, the next person will introduce their text. Possible texts might include any of Crowley's Libers or other works, books by Israel Regardie, Lon Milo DuQuette, and many more. If you are new to Thelema and don't have a favorite text yet, you can certainly still attend; bringing a text is not a requirement.
Also to be discussed at this meeting: when and where to meet in November and December, and what sort of topics to pursue in the future.
